Synopsis: Each night the only border crossing between India and Pakistan on a 3000km stretch becomes the sight of an extraordinary event. Thousands of people gather to witness the ritual closing of the border, after which the masses get as close as possible to the gate to greet their former neighbours. This “festival“ is therefore on the one hand a celebration of the partition, but on the other hand also the only connecting element. What do the terms separation, home and proximity mean to the people on both sides?

Cinematographer / Kamera: Harald Hauswald
Editor / Schnitt: Marc Thümmler
Music / Musik: Daniel Schellongowski
Producer / Produktion: Marc Thümmler

Synopsis: Remarkable document about East German photographer Harald Hauswald and the work he made in the 1980s in East Berlin that was stamped subversive. Because the East German photographer Harald Hauswald was considered a subversive element, the Stasi observed him for years under the code name ‚Radfahrer‘ (cyclist). In this experimental short, Marc Thümmler intriguingly sets Hauswald’s pictures alongside the Stasi reports.

Synopsis: In 1943 a cosmic ray research station was set up on the top of Mount Aragaz in Armenia. During the 1980s the team of scientists here embarked upon an ambitious research project which, due to the collapse of the Soviet Union, was never completed. Today the vast and considerably run-down complex located at an altitude of 3,500 metres is home to only six people, including two women who clean and cook for the group. This intimate and sensitive film uses long shots and masterful compositions to capture the total isolation of this surviving relic of the Soviet space programme.
